Course Description

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) is an essential component of effective teaching and learning, helping students develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to manage emotions, build healthy relationships, make responsible decisions, and achieve personal and academic goals. When intentionally integrated into daily classroom routines and instruction, SEL supports student engagement, improves behavior, strengthens relationships, and creates learning environments where all students can thrive.

This 5-hour professional development course provides educators with practical, evidence-based strategies for embedding Social-Emotional Learning into everyday classroom practice. Participants will explore the five core SEL competencies, classroom integration strategies, emotional regulation techniques, relationship-building practices, and goal-setting frameworks that support student success. Through reflection, practical applications, and resource development, educators will leave with classroom-ready strategies that promote student well-being, strengthen classroom communities, and improve both academic and social-emotional outcomes.

Throughout the course, participants will examine:

  • Understanding the five core Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) competencies

  • Integrating SEL into daily classroom instruction and routines

  • Teaching emotional awareness and self-regulation strategies

  • Building positive classroom relationships and a strong sense of belonging

  • Promoting empathy, cooperation, and respectful communication

  • Supporting responsible decision-making and problem-solving skills

  • Teaching conflict resolution and healthy interpersonal relationships

  • Using goal-setting and self-reflection to promote student growth

  • Creating classroom structures that foster emotional safety and engagement

  • Embedding SEL practices across grade levels and content areas

  • Developing classroom-ready SEL activities, reflection tools, and instructional resources

  • Creating supportive learning environments that promote academic success and student well-being

Participants will reflect on their current instructional practices while developing SEL integration plans, emotional regulation toolkits, relationship-building activities, goal-setting resources, and classroom routines that can be immediately implemented in their educational settings.

Assignments are designed to be practical, classroom-focused, and directly connected to the daily work of educators supporting students' social, emotional, and academic development.

Special attention is given to helping educators create safe, inclusive, and relationship-centered classrooms where students feel valued, supported, and prepared for success.

Participants will develop practical strategies that strengthen emotional regulation, improve communication and collaboration, foster resilience, and promote positive classroom communities that support lifelong learning and well-being.
